<\/p>\nThe Music Heals 2019 Conference (MH 2019) was successfully held on the 5th and 6th of July, 2019 at the AL-Farabi Hall at the Faculty of Human Ecology, UPM. MH 2019 was jointly organised by the Malaysian Society for Music in Medicine (MSMM) and Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Some 120 participants who were music enthusiasts, researchers, music therapists, music teachers, students, and members of the community attended this conference which covered topics from music for pain management, music for mental health, therapeutic singing for voice rehab, music therapy for traumatic brain injury & stroke rehab, musicians’ health & wellness, music for depression, music for senior care, and sound & its effects on the brain. <\/span><\/p>\n Speakers came from as far as the USA, Dr. Lori Gooding who presented the keynote; and Indonesia, Rozwita Amelinda; Professor Manohar Arumugam, Hand surgeon from UPM; Lian Yun-Perng from ACE Physiotherapy,;James Yeow from HELP University; Pri Chaskar from UPM,;Dr. Ang Mei Foong from UPM; Dr. Sindhu Nair from UPM, Racheal Yap from MPDA; Dr. Indra Selvarajah from UPM; Darien Nagle; Lee Aik Hooi; Cheach Yi Ting from HELP University.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n “Dr. Lori Gooding\u2019s keynotes. Very high quality of conference. Very educational. We learned so much that was useful to help us better understand how music can spur healing. The inclusion of both music therapy and music & medicine was a great idea! Dr. Lori gave a very clear explanation on the similarities and differences. All 5 strands very interesting and eye opening. Nice variety of topics.
